Goodbye Wellington

View from my hotel
Tomorrow is a very exciting, nerve-racking and all together weird day for me. Tomorrow at 7pm I will be heading to the airport to leave Wellington and move back to Australia. I've spent the last 11 months in this beautiful city and could not be more thankful for everything that has happened this year.

I moved here in January with two suitcases and two carryons, with my life inside them. My mum helped set me up in a little hostel room. This was when I started to learn how expensive life was. We had to buy all my cookware, cutlery, plasticware... the list goes on. We made my tiny room into a home away from home. I am leaving with two suitcases, two carryons and four big boxes.

I have experienced countless amazing things because of this amazing little city. This place is unique, with something hidden in every corner and every kind of person you will ever meet. There is always something going on and different opportunities to seize. If you have never been to Wellington, I highly recommend you do (maybe not in Winter if you don't want to be carried away by the wind or drenched by the torrential rain though).

In my time here I worked a part time customer service job, volunteered at an animal shelter and danced to my hearts content. While my job was trying most of the time, I was grateful for the challenge and learned a lot from the experience. I volunteered once a week in the dog run of an animal shelter and it is one of the best things I have ever done with my life. Being self appointed ultra dog fan number 1, I loved every moment of being there (despite the mess you can only imagine I had to clean each week). I met all types of dogs from many different backgrounds and situations. Showering them with love and affection was often the highlight of my week. Dancing was the reason I moved here at all. I trained nearly every day for months on end to achieve my goal of being accepted into a full time dance school. I achieved this in August and will be moving in January to Melbourne to start a new journey there.

In these last 11 months I have become a new person, wholly confident and secure with who I am and ready for this big wide world. Wellington will always be a special place for me and I am forever thankful. This year has been my best yet.

Bring on 2017!
